Five Honorable Mentions with Intriguing Storylines
Cincinnati Bengals at Cleveland Browns (Week 2)
When: Thursday, September 17th at 8:20 pm ET
Where: FirstEnergy Stadium in Cleveland Ohio
#1 Draft Pick Joe Burrow’s first appearance on national TV. He will go up against a talented Browns team led by first-year head coach Kevin Stefanski who hopes to rejuvenate a disappointed fanbase.
Tampa Bay Buccaneers at Chicago Bears (Week 5)
When: Thursday, October 8th at 8:20 pm ET
Where: Soldier Field in Chicago, Illinois
This is a personal pick coming from a Bears fan who will be in Chicago and thus hopes to attend the game. There is also the potential for a QB rematch of Super Bowl LI (Nick Foles vs. Tom Brady). It is contingent on Foles winning the QB position which I predict will happen by this time next year.
Dallas Cowboys at Arizona Cardinals (Week 6)
When: Monday, October 19th at 8:15 pm ET
Where: AT&T Stadium in Arlington, Texas
The Cardinals are my dark horse team for this season. I expect Kyler Murray to take the next step especially with the addition of star WR DeAndre Hopkins. They start the season with an easy slate of games and could very well be 4-1 heading into this primetime matchup. It’s also the rematch of an iconic MNF game that occurred 24 years ago. In the film Jerry Maguire, Cardinals wide receiver Rod Tidwell, played by Cuba Gooding Jr., scored the game’s winning touchdown propelling the Cardinals to a playoff spot. So as you can imagine, D-Hop has a lot to live up to.
Carolina Panthers at Washington Redskins (Week 16)
When: Sunday, December 27th at 1:00 pm ET
Where: FedEx Field in Landover, Maryland
This game will have massive implications for the top pick in the 2021 NFL Draft. These two teams will be disgustingly bad this year. The “Teddy Bridgewater” experiment will go poorly in Matt Rhule’s NFL debut year and I am skeptical of the hype surrounding a potential comeback for Redskins’ QB Alex Smith. This game will probably never see the Redzone channel, yet if you’re interested in the draft or college football, this may be the game to watch.
San Francisco 49ers at New England Patriots (Week 7)
When: Sunday, October 25th at 4:25 pm ET
Where: Gillette Stadium in Foxborough, Massachusetts
A Pats’ fan’s worst nightmare. Despite the genius of Bill Bellichick, I predict the Patriots will have an awful season under the leadership of inexperienced quarterback Jarret Stidham. This game will be a blowout. It will give Pats’ fans a glimpse at what could have been the future if Robert Kraft and Co. had played their cards a little differently.
